Stanbic Encourages Young People to Develop Growth Mindset for Relevance

The Head of Learning and Development at Stanbic Bank Ghana, Akorfa Takal, encouraged students to develop growth mindsets to maintain relevance in a fast-changing and evolving world.

The Head of Learning and Development at Stanbic Bank Ghana, Akorfa Takal, has encouraged students to develop growth mindsets to maintain relevance in a fast-changing and evolving world. Akorfa Takal said this at the Stanbic/GIMPA Digital Skills held at the GIMPA campus as part of activities for this year’s Stanbic Hackathon.

Ms. Takal emphasized the pivotal role a growth mindset plays in an individual’s ability to continuously acquire new skills and adapt to changing circumstances, thereby ensuring continuous relevance. According to her, the journey begins with fostering an inquisitive mind, questioning how one can approach challenges differently. Furthermore, she highlighted the significance of being open to learning new concepts, embracing a willingness to experiment with new ideas, and being resilient in the face of potential failure. Ms. Takal also emphasized the importance of embracing constructive feedback as a critical element of personal development and the cultivation of a growth mindset.

She noted that “Having a growth mindset is critical when you want to set yourself apart from your peers. The world of work is changing and if you want to be the one who stays relevant regardless of the changing times, you have to be ready to learn and unlearn at all times.”

The Stanbic Staff Hackathon, a flagship initiative in the bank's innovation agenda, serves as a collaborative platform that brings together diverse stakeholders such as software developers, experts, policymakers, academics, and industry players. The overarching aim is to delve into the potential of artificial intelligence and machine learning while collaboratively crafting solutions for identified challenges across sectors like Agriculture, Financial Technology, Healthcare, E-commerce, Mobility, Internet of Things, Education, and Communication.
